Conflict is not always the problem. It is important how we respond to and manage it.
Recently, the #TPCLeadershipSEA team, Deva Param, Reinier Starink, Jackie Yong, and I facilitated an workshop for MMC Port Holdings Sdn Bhd leadership team.
Throughout the day, participants reflected on operational priorities, leading change, turning commitments into action and strengthening collaboration across teams.
In one of the sessions, we explored 5 different conflict-handling styles:
💥 Competing, Collaborating, Compromising, Avoiding and Accommodating.
None of these approaches is always good or bad. What matters is recognising our natural tendency and choosing the response that best fits the situation.
Sometimes, we need to stand firm.
Sometimes, we need to step back.
And sometimes, we need to move beyond defending our own position and become curious about what the other person needs in order to find a solution.
Managing conflict is not simply about reaching agreement. It is about responding with flexibility and intention.
❓What conflict style(s)(Collaborating, Compromising, Avoiding or Accommodating) do you tend to fall into when conflict arises?
And how do you usually manage it?
